Try geometric patterns in black and white instead of zebra stripes: the repetition in the pattern will make it appear less "busy" than the random look of an animal print. A couple of ones to look at:

To add interest to the walls, consider using decals in a contrasting color (such as white on the teal wall). More stores are offering removable decals for decorating purposes as a way to change the feel of a room in a way that isn't permanent. A flock of white birds (a silhouette image) or just white circles would look striking on a background of teal. These decorating decals can be found at stores like Target or Bed Bath and Beyond.
